The Barracks to Partner with RSVP Vacations for Two More Cruise Liner Int'l Leather Parties
THE BARRACKS, which scored a world first in May with the first leather-fetish party in history on the Queen Mary 2 liner, will partner with RSVP VACATIONS for two more parties on up-coming cruises. The parties will happen in early August on a 10-day cruise of the Mediterranean and in early September on a week-long cruise of Alaska.
Barracks co-owners John Rentsch and Carl Levine said the success of the event on the QM2 led to the on-going relationship. That party proved so successful that the crowd over-flowed the largest disco on board the ship and took over most of an adjoining lounge area. Lines to get into the event and to get drinks formed so quickly that the ship's officials rushed an additional six bartenders in to help. Among the many men and women who showed up in leather for the event were Charlie and Hunter from Eagle LA and Tom Wood, president/owner Rawhide 2010 and five other bars in New Orleans.
Two door prizes for the event -- each valued at more than $1000 -- promoted Palm Springs Leather Pride (November 8 -- 11, 2007). Commented Rentsch: "We took the opportunity to do as much as we could to promote PS Leather Pride. Contributing to the door prizes were Palm Springs Leather Order of the Desert, PS resorts The Columns and Terrazzo, stores Tuff-Stuff and Gear, restaurants Amici and Plum and The Barracks itself. Entertainment included American Idol finalist, openly-gay R. J. Helton.
The Queen Mary 2 event started after Rentsch and Levine booked passage on the first ever all-gay trans-Atlantic crossing on the world's largest and most luxurious liner. They noticed that there were no leather events scheduled so they contacted RSVP Vacations -- part of Planet Out Inc which is the largest gay media group in the United States. After six weeks of talks an agreement was reached which made The Barracks the first gay bar in history to sponsor an event on the QM2. "And to have that event be a celebration of leather and fetish, " says Rentsch, "made it all that much more exciting and satisfying. The leather community had a very visible and positive presence on the ship and because of that we will do the same for two more cruises this year." The party on the Meditteranean cruises, which departs from Rome on August 9, will be themed SPARTAN LEATHER PARTY. It will happen Monday, August 13 somewhere between Dubrovnik and Venice and will feature DJ Kimberly S., with a special appearance by Kristine W, plus porn studs Collin O'Neal and Roman Ragazzi.
